The Canada-UAE Business Council was a joint vision in 2013 by the foreign
ministers of Canada and the UAE. It was established as a key organisation
responsible for advancing the prosperity pillar of bilateral relationship. The
CUBC stems from earlier moves to improve the overall bilateral relationship
in the areas of prosperity, and security, development. The Memorandum of
Understanding on Economic Cooperation, Trade and Investment signed be-
tween Canada and the UAE in 2009 is a key foundational agreement guiding
the relationship for the past decade.

Recently, high-level government meetings have increased in frequency and
initiatives to spur trade and investment are again priorities. In September
2016, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, and Chrystia
Freeland, who was then Canadian Minister of International Trade, chaired
the preparatory meeting of the first joint economic committee of the UAE and
Canada in Ottawa, Canada. Learn more.

ter of International Trade Francois Champagne and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin
Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
for the UAE, and co-founder of the CUBC, met to discuss ways of enhancing
bilateral trade and investment relations. Learn more.
