Canada-UAE Business Council Welcomes
New United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Canada

TORONTO, ON, Feb. 10, 2018 – The Canada-UAE Business Council is pleased to welcome His Excellency Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani into his new role as the UAE Ambassador to Canada. The ambassador presented his credentials to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, on January 29, 2018.

Mustafa Sahin, President & Executive Director of the Canada-UAE Business Council:
“We are delighted to congratulate His Excellency Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani on taking on this important position. Mr. Al Raqbani comes into the role with a deep understanding of business, and a distinguished background in promoting trade and investment, having served as the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development since 2008.”

“Canada and the UAE share a common view that openness is the best approach to growing the economy and creating jobs. We see that every day in this relationship. Over 150 Canadian companies are active and employing thousands of people in the UAE. The UAE has also invested over $20 billion in Canada, and that creates jobs for Canadians. That includes the recently announced $2 billion investment for a new Nova Chemicals facility in Sarnia, Ontario that will create 145 direct jobs, and 1,400 indirect jobs in the region.

“Canada and the UAE enjoy a strong existing relationship, but it is one of tremendous unrealized potential, especially when it comes to the ties between our business communities. Having somebody of the caliber of Mr. Al Raqani in this role only serves to emphasize how much of a priority Canada is to the UAE. We look forward to working together with him, and wish him every success for his posting.”
